Hidden Town is a groundbreaking project launched by Old Salem Museums & Gardens in 2017 with the goal of revealing the hidden legacies of the African American people who lived, worked, struggled and achieved there, and to restore their rightful place in our local history. Hidden Town Project Co-chair Bill Cook will explain how Old Salem is using decades of archeological, genealogical, historical and ethnographic data to reconstruct a portrait of life for 18th and 19th-century African Americans that has been largely overlooked, much like a hidden town living underneath the surface.
